Nobody's Better Than You!

Last Friday, something magical happened.

Fenella Hemus sang in front of an audience – for the very first time in her life. And it was exquisite.

Her performance was filled with poise, elegance, and emotional clarity – the kind that doesn’t just come from years of training, but from something much deeper: presence, purpose, and heart.

Fenella’s song nestled beautifully within the evening’s programme, which featured a vibrant mix of singers – from absolute beginners to seasoned professionals and everything in between. But here’s the thing:

Experience didn’t matter.

Because this wasn’t a concert about comparison. This was a celebration. A celebration of every singer – no matter where they were in their journey.

Our programme, From First Note to Final Curtain, exists to break down the walls. There are no rankings here. No “I’m better than you” energy. No whispered judgments about who “belongs” and who doesn’t.

Because here, you belong.

At Diva Central, we’re building a radically supportive, ego-free community where everyone is seen, heard, and valued – as both singer and human. Whether you’ve been singing for 30 years or 30 minutes, you have something unique to offer.

And most importantly, you have something to learn – from everyone.

You can learn just as much from watching someone take their first, nervous steps on stage as you can from someone who’s performed forever. That was certainly true for me last Friday.

Fenella taught me something profound.

She showed me that being fully present while performing – rooted in the moment, allowing the music to move through you – is what truly connects us to an audience.

She reminded me that believing in the power of your own voice, and the intention behind your song, is everything. And she proved that, with the right mindset, supportive environment, and solid technique, a singer can deliver a performance that touches people deeply – even after just a few months of training.

But what did Fenella take away from it all?

Here are her own words:

“Well, what can I say? Where to start? It’s been incredible, this experience.

I joined the Hope cohort as part of my ‘60 things for my 60th year’. I never really thought about singing.

I met you that fateful day, having tea at the Shard, and since then – with your support, your passion, your teaching – you’ve shown me the power of my voice in a whole new way.

Being with the other Divas (and Divo!)… the energy in the room… there’s a special kind of connection there. It gives me hope. It shows what’s possible when people support each other from the heart.

All of us wanting the best for each other. All of us cheerleading one another on.

And then… the concert. Magical. Moving. The audience was with us, supporting every singer. It was surreal standing up in front of the group and singing.

I actually went somewhere else in my mind – and just sang. The sound came out of my body just as you taught me.

So thank you – for your incredible teaching. Thank you to all the other Divas. For the relationships we built through song. For the joy. And for supporting such a wonderful charity.

What a magnificent journey to have been on.

And to anyone who’s thinking about jumping into the next cohort, but isn’t quite sure: Just do it. This will be a memorable, masterful, magnificent experience – one that stays with you forever. It’s something that’s honestly hard to beat.”

So here’s your reminder – whether you’re thinking about starting your singing journey, or you’re already on the path:

Nobody’s better than you.

Not here. Not in this space. You have a voice. You have something to say. And you deserve to be heard.

If this resonates with you and you want to explore how this journey could look for you – whether you’re 18 or 80 – DM me. Let’s talk. Let’s make it happen.

Because your voice matters. And there’s no time like now.
